5 Months Old!!! Where has the time gone?

Yesterday marked another milestone for Quinner - she was 5 months old!  I find it so hard to believe that she's been here for that long, but yet it feels like she's always been here!  Ever since she started to roll over for the first time in December, she's been progressing like crazy!  You can't stop her from rolling over (both with and without her boots on), she laughs more, she tries to sit up on her own, she can finally sit in her Bumbo, she's starting to reach her arms out when she wants to be picked up...it's just an amazing list!  Every day leads to something more exciting.

Quinn Got Her Ears Pierced!

Yesterday we took Quinn to get her ears pierced at Claire's.  She was so good!  I think that Steve was more traumatized by the experience than Quinn was.  In December, Linds and I tried to get Quinn's ears pierced, but we were told that we had to have her immunization record in order to have it done - quite glad that the Claire's store at least has some standards!  I then realized that my doctor hadn't given me her record after her first shots, so I waited until she had her second round and got the record then.

I was quite impressed with the girl who pierced Quinn's ears.  She was definitely very professional!  We decided on getting her birthstone (peridot) for her earrings and she looks so sweet!  She hardly flinched for the first ear, but then didn't like being held still for the second ear, so that one didn't go as smoothly.  She only cried for about 30 seconds before she forgot all about it!

Quinn's 4 Month Check-Up

Everything went great today at Quinn's checkup!  She weighs 13.1 lbs (50th percentile), is 62 cm long (50th percentile), and head circumference also at the 50th percentile - my average according to the doctor but above average to us! :)  She also had her next round of shots and she seemed to tolerate them very well...she cried and turned bright red in the face, but I fed her right afterward which calmed her right down.  Such a big girl!!! We were so proud. :)

Quinn and her Paper

When we were on a playdate at Carole's a couple of months ago, we saw Alex playing with his "paper" - basically a fabric foldout that crinkles and has pictures of little babies, a mirror, and cartoon images.  I saw the "paper" at Winners before Christmas, so I picked it up for Quinn.  I decided to get the paper out of the toybox today for her to play with on the floor.  Turns out that she LOVES it and all the noises that it makes, especially when she moves her arms wildly around.  Here's a little video that caught some of it.

Quinn's A Little Fish!

Yesterday was Quinn's first day of swimming lessons at the YMCA/YWCA.  She seemed to really like it - i.e., she didn't cry!  Steve was with her in the pool, but we decided that we both really want to share in the experience so I'll be joining him next week.  It was so cute to see her in the water!  She seemed to rather enjoy watching all of the other babies as opposed to looking at Steve, but she did shoot me a lot of glances as I was sitting poolside and a big smile crossed her face.  We're really interested to see how she progresses.  So far she isn't really kicking or anything, but the class is 12 weeks long, so I'm sure that we'll see quite the change over the next weeks.  Can't wait to get in the water with her.

Here are some pictures and a video:

Nova Scotia Trip

We've been in Nova Scotia for the past week to celebrate my Nana's 70th birthday.  It's been a crazy busy time with family and for trying to keep Quinn on a semi-regular routine.  Starting on January 6th, she doesn't have to wear her boots 23 hours a day anymore...which was so great!  She's finally able to wear some of the cute shoes that we have for her.  Now she is only supposed to be wearing her boots for nighttime and naps.  Steve and I were wondering what to do about the napping, since she wasn't on any sort of regular schedule.  Then the week leading up to "Freedom Day", she started to go down for naps around 10ish and 2ish...with a nighttime nap around 8ish.  So we've decided that we'll just put her boots on around 10 and around 2 for about an hour and a half or so, and hopefully it will develop nicely into a napping pattern!  So far so good...we get the naps during those times about 50% of the time.

Quinn's been sleeping pretty well over our trip.  She slept through the night 3 nights, and then, unfortunately, the past 2 nights has decided that it's time to get up for the day at 4:30am.  Pretty frustrating, but I'm usually only getting up the one time in the night (at 4:30) to feed her on those times.  It's great to have Steve off from work to be here to help me when she decided to be up and talking to me at 4:30 with no sign of going back to sleep.

Right now we're just waiting to see if our flight will get out tonight.  It was supposed to be leaving at 8:30pm tonight, and is already delayed until 10pm.  Not great weather on either side!  I was really hoping to get home tonight since Quinn is supposed to start swimming lessons tomorrow morning.  Unless we get out really early in the morning to make her 10am class, we're going to miss the first one.  Oh well, not much that you can do when the weather isn't cooperating!

I'll post some pictures soon when I get home! :)

Some Videos

Here are a couple of videos that we took in the past month or so.  The first one is of Quinn talking to us...sometimes she'll just stop feeding and start talking!!! Don't worry, she's all done feeding in the video. :)  The second video is of her laughing (the best that we could catch on camera).  She starts to smile as soon as Steve makes the funny noise anytime now! :)

Happy New Year!

It seems like a switch has been flipped somewhere and Quinn decided that she was going to all of a sudden become a big girl when it comes to sleeping.  Last night at our friends' New Year's party, she slept on the couch next to all of the commotion for 3.5 hours (went down at 8:30pm), woke up briefly to be put in her car seat, slept the whole drive home, then slept when we put her in her playpen to go to bed.  She woke up at 2:30am for a quick feed, then went back down until about 8am this morning.  And then this afternoon she slept in her crib for 2 hours...and this was the first time that we ever put her in her crib!!!  We felt like "real" parents by cleaning the house with the baby up in her room and just the monitor on the table.  She's growing up too fast!
